The Legacy of Chef
Tylun Pang
1956 – 2022
The loss of our beloved executive chef, Tylun Pang, has left our ‘ohana heartbroken. Over the weeks since his departure, our team has focused on Chef’s guiding principles of taking care of others.
In his 25 years at the helm of Fairmont Kea Lani’s culinary programming, Chef Tylun Pang created a legacy as “the chef’s chef”. His commitment to mentoring and bringing up the next generation of culinarians is evident through the number of lives and careers he has touched, along with the outpouring of support from our community. Chef Pang was the consummate ambassador to Hawaiʻi – sharing his love of the islands, the rich culture of Maui and genuine aloha with visitors across the globe. Above all, Chef loved his ʻohana. From his beautiful ʻohana at home to those he forged friendships with throughout his career. Chef Pang’s ʻohana stretched far and wide: from Oʻahu where he was born, across the islands, to here on Maui where he was at the cornerstone of the culinary community. He was always thinking of others and how his work could help bring up the next generation. This was much of the inspiration behind his namesake scholarship, which over the past ten years has been awarded to 9 recipients. His commitment to the local agriculture community and his legacy extends throughout Maui and beyond.
